Words of Silver

$8,999.00 $8,999.00

This artwork, titled "Words of Silver," draws inspiration from Psalm 12 and visually represents the lament of the Psalmist over the increasing deceit and falsehoods among humanity. The imagery of this piece captures the sense of distress expressed in the opening verse:  "Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men." (Psalm 12:1). In the foreground, figures stand with downcast expressions, symbolizing the despair of those seeking truth amidst a world filled with deception.

The swirling clouds and shadows around these figures evoke the spirit of the next verses:  "They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak." (Psalm 12:2). The artwork emphasizes the duality of speech, with fractured images of faces split in two, reflecting the "double heart" that speaks flattering lies while hiding selfish intentions. The lips are depicted in glowing red, capturing the dangerous allure of persuasive but false words.

The center of the artwork is bathed in a soft silver light—a striking contrast to the darker surroundings. This light represents the divine promise found in verse 6:  "The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times." The silver glow symbolizes the purity of God's words, untouched by the corruption of human speech. It serves as a beacon of hope, cutting through the deceit and offering clarity to those who seek righteousness. The purity of this light is what draws the viewer's attention, much like how God's words bring reassurance and truth to a troubled world.

In the background, shadows of the wicked linger, as the Psalmist continues:  "The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted." (Psalm 12:8). These figures are portrayed as faceless, symbolizing the anonymity of evil, spreading through society and oppressing the innocent. The imagery reflects how wickedness becomes emboldened when the most corrupt individuals are placed in positions of power.

However, the focal point of the artwork is God's intervention. A figure representing divine protection rises in the distance, corresponding with verse 5:  "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him." This figure is wrapped in the silver light, illustrating God's promise to protect the humble and vulnerable from those who oppress them.

In real life, Psalm 12 serves as a reflection on the challenges of navigating a world filled with dishonesty, manipulation, and oppression. Yet, it also provides hope for the faithful. This Psalm encourages people to turn to the truth and purity of God's words as a refuge and a guide amidst confusion. On the internet, this Psalm is often shared during times of societal upheaval, where injustice seems prevalent, and many find solace in the message that God’s promises remain pure and steadfast, no matter how bleak the circumstances.

"Words of Silver" reminds us that while deceit and vanity may seem rampant, God’s words are like silver—tested, true, and enduring, providing strength and protection for those who trust in Him.
