Shadows of Iniquity, Hand of Redemption

$12,999.00 $12,999.00

This artwork, a vivid blend of ethereal colors and silhouettes, reflects deeply on the human struggle with unseen forces of darkness and the ultimate triumph of divine justice. A monumental hand, half-celestial, stretches down from the heavens, symbolic of God's omnipotent intervention in the face of hidden evil. Below, shrouded figures, veiled in mystery, haunt the landscape like shadowy whispers of malevolence — the "workers of iniquity" described in  Psalms 64:2 . These figures, lurking in the misty hills as the vibrant sunset bleeds into the sky, embody those who conspire in the dark, "whetting their tongues like swords," as the verse  64:3 vividly portrays.

The delicate play of light and shadow in this piece illustrates the secrecy of those who plot evil, as echoed in  64:4 : "They may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not." Yet, the morning light breaking on the horizon suggests the dawn of truth, the inevitable revelation of hidden malice. God, depicted through the vast hand in the sky, prepares to strike with justice, a fulfillment of  64:7 : "But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded." The divine arrow is unseen but certain, and the shadows below tremble under its promise.

The figures in the mist remain still, as though frozen by the realization that their evil has been uncovered. The way the mist envelopes them suggests both the secrecy of their actions and the futility of hiding from divine judgment. In  64:8 , it says, "So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves," indicating that their own wicked words and deeds will turn against them. The art captures this climactic moment of reckoning, when even the proudest of sinners must face their downfall. The faint handprint, like a ghostly echo, above the main hand symbolizes the lingering impact of human sin, but also the imminent hope of redemption.

As an artist, my intention was to evoke the eternal tension between human frailty and divine justice, where shadows and light represent the ceaseless battle between good and evil. The inspiration for this piece came from reflecting on the hidden struggles we face every day — the unseen forces that prey upon our weaknesses, the toxic words, and quiet betrayals that leave their marks on our hearts. These battles are not fought with swords but with whispered malice, with fears that cloud the mind like mist over these shadowed figures.

This Psalm is a reminder of the power of faith in the face of such adversity. We are not left defenseless. The righteous can take solace in  64:10 : "The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory." The ascending light in this piece, pouring over the mountains, represents the hope and glory promised to those who stand upright. Even when we cannot see the enemy, we can trust that justice will prevail, that God’s hand will intervene.

In creating this, I was drawn to the contrast between the hidden and the revealed, the struggle of those who seek the light versus those trapped in their own schemes. This piece is not just about divine judgment but also about liberation — liberation from fear, from the unseen enemies that whisper discouragement, and from the shadows that lurk within and around us. Through the artistry of blending the spiritual with the earthly, I aimed to show that in the end, no shadow can stand against the dawning of the righteous light. The message I want to leave with the viewer is one of both caution and hope: while darkness may rise, it cannot endure. It will fall upon itself, as God’s justice shines through every veil of deceit.

This art stands as a prayer for preservation in times of fear ( 64:1 ), as a reflection on the hidden snares laid out by life’s challenges ( 64:5 ), and as a testament to the inevitable victory of divine truth over human deception. Through color, shape, and light, I have tried to bring forth not just an image, but an emotional journey — one that mirrors the very essence of  Psalms 64 , where fear gives way to trust, and shadows give way to the light of redemption.
