The Sacred Silence of Reverence

$11,500.00 $11,500.00

In this luminous artwork, a grand, cathedral-like structure opens up into the heavens, with golden light pouring down from its spires and illuminating the scene below. At the forefront, an elder figure kneels in deep contemplation, their head bowed toward the water that reflects the ethereal glow of the divine structure above. On the other side, a young girl sits in peaceful meditation, holding small, flickering candles — symbols of innocence and mindful devotion. The overall atmosphere exudes a sense of deep reverence and humility, aligning perfectly with the contemplative wisdom from Ecclesiastes 5:1-3.

Ecclesiastes 5:1 urges, "Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil." The grand cathedral in the artwork symbolizes the house of God — a sacred space where words and actions should be measured carefully. The elder man’s bowed posture and the young girl’s silent meditation capture the essence of this verse: they are not rushing to speak or act but are instead in a state of quiet readiness to listen. The art evokes the importance of approaching the divine with humility and attentiveness, understanding that haste in word or deed can lead one astray.

In Ecclesiastes 5:2, "Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few," the swirling light in the upper portion of the cathedral represents the lofty heights of heaven, a reminder of the vast distance between the divine and human understanding. The figures below, especially the elderly man kneeling, embody the quiet reflection this verse advises. His posture suggests a deep awareness of the divine presence and a conscious effort to still his heart and mind, knowing that true reverence comes not from the multitude of words, but from the purity of intent.

The girl’s glowing candles reflect Ecclesiastes 5:3, "For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words." Her candles, small and steady, symbolize the clarity and simplicity that come from mindful devotion, as opposed to the chaos and confusion that can arise from being overly consumed by business or distracted by meaningless words. The calm water at their feet, reflecting the light above, represents the quiet that follows inner stillness, a visual metaphor for the peace that comes when one refrains from speaking rashly or acting impulsively.

These verses serve as a reminder to approach life, particularly our spiritual life, with thoughtfulness and care. In a world where people are constantly bombarded with information, and often encouraged to speak quickly or act impulsively, Ecclesiastes 5:1-3 teaches the value of patience, silence, and reflection. The artwork mirrors this wisdom by portraying figures who have chosen contemplation over action, who understand that wisdom comes not from a multitude of words but from a heart that listens.

In today’s world, where distractions are plentiful, and hasty speech is encouraged through constant communication and social media, this biblical message offers an essential counterbalance. It urges individuals to pause, to reflect on their words and actions, and to approach both life and faith with humility. The visual representation of light, silence, and reverence in this artwork encourages the viewer to embrace stillness and to recognize that the most profound insights often come in moments of quiet reflection, not through a flood of speech or activity.

This message encourages individuals to be mindful of their words and actions, particularly in moments of prayer, meditation, or important decision-making. It reminds us that there is wisdom in silence and that listening, whether to God or to others, is often more powerful than speaking. The figures in the artwork embody this spiritual truth, offering a visual reminder of the sacredness of humility, silence, and the power of a quiet, contemplative spirit.
