Precision and Purpose: The Journey of Sagen Maddalena

Creating this artwork, I aimed to convey the quiet yet powerful world of precision shooting. It’s a sport that requires not only physical skill but also immense mental strength. The muted palette, dominated by shades of gray and soft tones, mirrors the calm and composed nature of the athletes. This is not a sport of loud celebrations but one of quiet victories and personal triumphs.  

Sagen Maddalena's journey is one of perseverance. Born on January 25, 1994, she studied at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she honed her skills and developed a passion for shooting. Her path to the Olympics wasn't easy, facing the immense pressure of competition and the need for unwavering focus. Yet, her journey to Paris 2024 showcases not just her technical abilities but also her emotional resilience. The moments of isolation, the intense training, and the personal sacrifices are all part of the narrative that led her to the podium.  

The use of gray tones emphasizes the quiet, introspective nature of shooting as a discipline. It also symbolizes the clarity and precision needed in aiming and shooting, a metaphor for the clear vision and goals that Maddalena pursued. The subtle inclusion of warm tones, particularly around the medal and her smile, adds a touch of human warmth and achievement, celebrating not just the victory but the emotional journey and the support she received along the way.
