In creating this artwork, I sought to capture the essence of freedom, skill, and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream embodied by Tom Schaar's performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The image of Tom mid-trick showcases his control and mastery over his craft, a moment where gravity seems to yield to his command.

Tom Schaar, born on September 14, 1999, is a trailblazer in the world of skateboarding. He made history at just 12 years old by landing the first-ever 1080 in competition. Since then, Tom has collected numerous accolades, including multiple X Games medals, and has become a symbol of innovation and progression in skateboarding. His journey has been marked by pushing the boundaries of what is possible on a skateboard, consistently setting new standards.

Tom Schaar competed in the Men's Park Skateboarding event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he won the silver medal. Competing against top athletes, Schaar delivered a best score of 92.23 during his second run, securing his place on the podium. The event was part of the Skateboarding discipline, specifically in the Park category, which involves performing tricks within a specially designed park filled with ramps, bowls, and obstacles.

Schaar's journey to this achievement was marked by resilience and determination. After narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he was more motivated than ever to push for success in Paris 2024. His hard work and perseverance paid off, making him one of the top skateboarders in the world. Schaar's camaraderie with Keegan Palmer, who won gold, played a significant role in pushing him to new heights, demonstrating the power of friendly competition.

This silver medal is a significant milestone in Schaar’s career. His performance in Paris is a testament to his enduring skill, commitment to the sport, and ability to rise above challenges.

The blue sky in the background signifies endless possibilities, a nod to Tom's continuous pursuit of greatness. The red and white of the flag add depth, symbolizing the strength and purity of his intentions as he represents his country. The muted tones around the edges allow the action and emotion to take center stage, making the viewer feel as though they are witnessing a pivotal moment in sports history.

Tom’s Olympic journey is one of breaking barriers and inspiring others. His smile in the portrait is not just one of victory but of a person who has dedicated his life to his passion and is now reaping the rewards on the grandest stage of all. This image serves as a celebration of not only Tom’s achievements but also the spirit of skateboarding and the community that supports it. Through this art, I aimed to convey the emotional high that comes with reaching new heights—literally and figuratively—and the pride of carrying one’s flag into uncharted territory.
